We’re Celebrating Today
How fun to write this today as Chuck and I celebrate 12 years in the home inspection business. This is a true milestone for our family-owned company. What started as a one-person operation (Chuck), with Julie assisting with the bookwork, has blossomed into a thriving team of eight dedicated team members. We’re incredibly proud of the growth and success we’ve achieved over the years. Our commitment to providing top-quality inspections and exceptional customer service has been the cornerstone of our journey. Horst Schulze, co-founder of the Ritz Carlton has a well known quote. “Customers may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” We agree with that quote, but we also go one step further to say “we are not here just to do your home inspection. We want to provide you great service even after you move into your home.”
The first year of home inspecting, Chuck performed about 100 inspections. It became evident about one year into the business that we’d need to hire some bookkeeping help, so that’s when Dawn joined our team. Three years pass, and Chuck knew he was going to need more help. That’s when we started talking with our son, Chris, about joining the team. He was hesitant at first; but after just a few short months he was happy with his decision to join us, and this enabled us to serve many more home buyers in the central Iowa area. By the end of 2017 we had added another part-time inspector and were performing nearly 600 inspections a year. Chris is our lead inspector and now does most of our training.
Online Scheduling
Our next step of growth began when we realized how many home buyers scheduled inspections after office hours. It was a huge step, but one that proved to be beneficial, when we implemented online scheduling. We had no idea how much people would appreciate the ability to schedule inspections in the evenings and on weekends. The addition of online scheduling began yet another season of rapid growth, and by 2020 we had added another part-time inspector as well as additional office assistance; and despite COVID, had a record breaking year performing nearly 1100 inspections.

What happens when you continue to have more work than you can handle? Prayer and discernment about whether to grow or turn away business is a big discussion. We have always relied on direction from the Lord in what we do; and out of the blue we were approached by a relative of Tim asking if we were looking to grow. Tim has been a huge asset to our team; and with the addition of another inspector it became obvious we needed a skill customer service staff person to help in the back office. That’s when Amanda’s name was given to us by a trusted realtor friend. Both Amanda and Tim have been amazing team members. A few part-time inspectors and office help have come and gone, but these two remain backbones of our business.
What’s Happening Today?
Move ahead a few years, and once again in 2025 it appears we are positioned for growth. We had our best January in 12 years; and after several years of processing an addition to our company, we decided to launch a sewer scope division. Our new sewer scope technician, Ben, has already been busy training and learning the ropes of this trade; and will be trained in doing home inspections by late spring/early summer. We are grateful for the training Chris has been providing for him. We also welcomed another part-time inspector, Fred Koke, who began training in the fall of 2024 and is now out there inspecting as well. We had a record breaking year in 2024, and to date have performed over 10,000 home inspections for home buyers in the Des Moines and central Iowa area.
