We know everybody is outside doing yard work and landscaping projects. How can you not when most of the events you normally attend in the summer are canceled; restaurants are still limiting seating; and besides that, the weather has been amazing! Gutter maintenance should be on your list.

Does your gutters look like the picture above? Do you see water falling off your roof where it shouldn’t? Do you see a small pond next to your home and wasn’t there before? Have you seen or felt dampness in your basement after a heavy rain? One issue may be your gutters need to be cleaned and the downspouts cleared. Also, be sure the downspouts are in place and are moving the water away from your home. Water not going down the gutters may create additional problems for your home.
One of the most neglected outdoor home maintenance items we see is plugged gutters. On a recent inspection, we found these gutters to still be full from who knows how many showers of rain. Nothing good comes from this! It’s important to clean your gutters every year in the late fall and again early spring if needed. Now, not everyone likes to get up on ladders – we get that! So if you don’t, find a high school kid who might like to make a little extra spending money; or maybe there’s a neighbor who doesn’t mind ladders. At any rate, it’s something important that should be done.
