We’ve been in this business since 2013 and the number of requests for radon has gone up significantly. Some people call and immediately request radon. While others ask the question: “What is radon and why should I do it?”
Home safety is important. Radon is an inert gas, colorless and odorless, that has been known to cause lung cancer in certain concentrations. Outdoors, the gas disperses quickly. But indoors, it can become trapped inside your home causing a potential health hazard. In the Midwest, this invisible gas has a tendency to run on the high side. When your home is tested for this potentially dangerous gas and the level exceeds 4pCi/L you will need to have radon mitigation done. Mitigation is when a certified company installs a system to trap the gas and vent it to the outside of your home.
Whether you are buying a new construction home, a gently used home, or a fixer upper, having a safe home is a top priority for our inspectors. We can inspect your home and advise if you should had it tested or not.
We’ve been partnering with Selgrade Construction & Radon since 2013, and we’re thankful for this partnership. Their team is highly qualified and when they find higher levels at a home that need to be mitigated they offer Wiemann Home Inspection clients a discount. You can always learn more about testing and mediation from their website. And of course, if you’re not sure you should be tested, for just $100 (our discount price when bundled with an inspection) you can have peace of mind in knowing that the home you’re purchasing has safe radon levels.
